Rail strikes

The series of two-day stoppages backed by all four French rail unions have ended (see Labour Research, May 2018, page 8).

Two of the four union confederations involved, CFDT and UNSA, halted participation at the end of June, the end of the initially planned period of action. A third, SUD, took part in some strikes in July.

Currently, only the fourth confederation, the CGT, is planning further action. The unions were opposing the abolition of the special employment status of railway workers. However, legislation making the change has now been passed.
