PCS consultation on women's representation and participation

The PCS public and commercial services union is conducting a consultation throughout the union on improving the representation and participation of women in its democratic structures. The move is in response to a resolution passed at last year’s annual delegate conference.

The union notes that, while 60% of its members are women, only 45% of its workplace reps and 33% of its national executive committee are women. The proportions are lower for other bodies and delegations.

PCS branches, reps and members are being asked to respond to an online consultation. The consultation asks what they think would work best to remove barriers to women’s participation and whether they support the union’s rules being changed to ensure that at least 50% of the ordinary national executive committee seats are filled by women.
