Women’s Day protest

As was the case last year, Spain was again the European centre of women’s protests on International Women’s Day on 8 March.

The unions calculate that between five and six million workers followed the union call for work stoppages — a similar number to 2018.

In addition, there were more than 200 demonstrations across Spain, with 375,000 marchers in Madrid and 200,000 in Barcelona.

Key demands were to close the gender pay gap and end sexual harassment and violence against women.
