Referendum call
 in Croatia

Croatia’s three main union confederations are calling on the government to act in line with the law and organise a referendum on the recent increase in the retirement age from 65 to 67.

Earlier this year, in line with the provisions of the Croatian constitution, the unions organised a petition calling for a referendum on the issue.

To be valid, the unions needed to collect 373,568 signatures (10% of all electors). In fact they collected 748,624. The unions fear that the government will try to avoid calling a referendum if it can.
