Mick Cash re-elected to lead rail union

Mick Cash was last month re-elected as general secretary of the RMT transport union after beating former president Sean Hoyle in a two-horse race. After taking 59% of the vote, Cash immediately announced it was “business as usual” as the union “unites and steps up the fight for workplace justice in a wide range of ongoing disputes”.

Meanwhile, the NASUWT teaching union has advertised for a new general secretary to replace retiring general secretary Chris Keates.

Interviews are to take place on 11 October, two days after a legal hearing to decide whether Keates breached trade union law by staying in office for longer than five years without standing for re-election.
