PCS levy

The PCS civil service union has established a temporary emergency membership levy to help support members taking part in the current industrial action.

The union says that, as the strikes are targeted in certain areas, those who are taking action are doing so “on behalf of every other member”.

This means “we cannot ask them to lose money — we must raise enough to pay them full pay.”

It adds that other members called on later to be part of a targeted strike will also be paid full pay, though if an all-member strike is called this will not be feasible.

The levy is £5 a month for members earning £24,000 or more, and £3 a month for members on less than £24,000.
