Further strikes in Netherlands

FNV, the largest union in the Netherlands, expects further strikes in the next few months as part of its campaign for improved pay.

FNV leader Tuur Elzinga has pointed to the high number of strikes organised by his union and indicated that he sees no reason why this should not continue.

Strike action at the Dutch railway company, NS, last summer, saw a substantial pay rise, and Elzinga says: “People see successes and want the same in their sector.”

In January, the FNV called out its members in regional transport, beverage wholesalers and drug stores, with possible further action to come in local government.
