Increase in statutory payments

April marks the increase for a number of statutory payments affecting workers.

From 1 April 2023, the National Living Wage rate increases from £9.50 per hour to £10.42 (for those aged 23 and over).

National Minimum Wage rates for those under the age of 23 and first year apprentices are:

• workers aged 21 to 22: £10.18 (up from £9.18);

• workers aged 18 to 20: £7.49 (up from £6.83);

• workers aged 16 to 17: £5.28 (up from £4.81); and

• apprentices in their first year: £5.28 (up from £4.81).

From 10 April 2023, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Paternity Pay, Statutory Adoption Pay, Statutory Shared Parental Pay and Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay increase from £156.66 per week to £172.48 (or, if lower, 90% of an employee’s average weekly earnings).

From 10 April, Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) increases from £99.35 to £109.40 per week.
