Inflation eases

Inflation rates eased to levels last seen a year ago, but prices continue to rise steeply. Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation slowed to 11.4% in April, from 13.5% in March. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 8.7%, while CPI inflation with a housing element (CPIH) was around one point lower than before, at 7.8%.

Inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages remained at a staggering 19.1% (19.2% in March).
