Edinburgh College

Members of the EIS-FELA education union have taken strike action at Edinburgh College in a dispute over compulsory redundancies.

Although negotiation reduced the number of jobs under threat, the college rejected the appeal of one lecturer against compulsory redundancy as of 30 June 2023. The lecturer “also happens to be an EIS branch rep”, said EIS general secretary Andrea Bradley.

She said it appeared the college “cares more about targeting union reps and testing the water on compulsory redundancies of lecturers in the sector than ensuring the delivery of quality education and Fair Work for lecturing staff”.
