Congress backs safety motion

A motion on safety issues from construction union UCATT was carried unanimously at last month's Trades Union Congress. The resolution called on unions to press for roving safety reps; better protection from victimisation for safety reps; the right to stop the job; and the jailing of employers responsible for deaths at work. Other motions on safety matters were remitted to the General Council following the early closure of Congress. These covered: safety education in schools; monitoring racist violence in the workplace; drug and alcohol screening; and maximum workplace temperatures.
