Gongs for trade unionists
Bill Connor, general secretary of shopworkers' union USDAW, was knighted in the Queen's New Year's honours list for services to industrial relations.
Gongs also went to Maureen Rooney of the AEEU engineering union (CBE), David Falconer of the GMB general union (MBE), Leslie Manasseh of communications union Connect (MBE) and Anne Middleton, lately of public services union UNISON.
