Health and safety at work handbook 2003

Tolley's, 1,200 pages, paperback, £70.00

This 15th edition of the authoritative Tolley's handbook is a valuable reference guide for health and safety specialists.

The introduction contains a brief summary of recent trends in health and safety in the UK, together with an outline of the structure of health and safety law and on the management of regulations.

The volume is then divided into separate chapters, discussing issues such as dangerous substances, fire precautions, harassment, risk assessment, stress and working time.

The volume includes helpful appendices on statutory instruments, approved codes of practice, guidance and other publications issued by the Health and Safety Executive.

Overall the handbook is a reference guide aimed mainly at employers and, given its price, may not be widely available to trade unionists. If it is available, however, it will provide useful authoritative information.
