Former LRD stalwart dies

The Labour Research Department is sad to report the death, at 83, of Ken Brett who had been a long-serving member of its executive committee.

Ken was elected onto the executive in 1974 and he served on it until 1991.

Despite his extensive commitments as assistant general secretary of the AUEW engineering union, which became the AEU (now part of Amicus), he played an active role in the work of the LRD during this period.

He was energetic and enthusiastic with a clear talent for organisation, and his presence kept the LRD in close touch with the rank and file in the engineering industry.

Ken strongly supported the LRD's research and publications, which he saw as playing a wider educational role. He is remembered with great affection by all who knew him at the LRD.
