Former building workers' general secretary dies

The former leader of construction union UCATT, George Brumwell, sadly died last month, little more than a year since retiring as general secretary.

He had been in the post for 12 years, during which time he had presided over a major improvement in the union's finances. When Brumwell left, the membership was growing and its team of full-time officers was expanding.

Current UCATT general secretary Alan Ritchie commended Brumwell's "tireless work to improve the safety standards of building workers throughout the UK".
