Equality bill

Senior union and business figures will meet monthly to advise ministers on how best to implement the new Equality Bill.

The group of advisers will meet with the Government Equalities Office to discuss the content of the Bill and provide recommendations on simplifying discrimination law.

The TUC’s head of equality and employment rights, Sarah Veale, will work alongside the CBI’s director of employment policy, Katja Hall, and individuals representing religious and lobby groups, charities and research organisations.

The Bill is replacing the existing gender, race and disability duties and will also cover age and sexual orientation. It will also allow positive discrimination and stop employers banning their staff from talking about their pay.
