Living Wage Award

The first Scottish Living Wage Employer Award has been awarded to Glasgow City Council after it increased the wages of all its low paid staff to a minimum of £7 an hour. Steven Purcell, leader of the council, accepted the award, saying: “ It is simply unacceptable that almost one in five of Glasgow’s workers are paid less than £7 an hour and the Glasgow Living Wage has the potential to affect thousands of families.”

The Scottish Living Wage campaign is led by the Poverty Alliance, the STUC, Faith in the Community and UNISON and aims to raise around 700,000 workers in Scotland to a minimum wage of £7 an hour.
