Equality reps hold other union roles

Equality reps are a mixture of new union activists, current reps adding to their role and former reps continuing their union engagement, according to a report from a TUC project.

The project received £1.5 million through the Union Modernisation Fund to train equality reps and promote their role in unions and the workplace, and has trained 220 reps so far, 60 of them online.

A survey found that the most common position after equality rep is branch committee member, “perhaps indicating that the equality rep is seen as part of the overall local union team.” A significant number also reported being a workplace rep, with a smaller number being health and safety reps.
