Telegraph journalists win additional bonus

Journalists at the Daily Telegraph will receive a pay rise of 1.5% and a £500 bonus for 2010. The deal is the second stage of a three-year agreement negotiated by the NUJ journalists’ union. It paid 2% last year with a further 2.5% due in 2011, linked to inflation. “The deal just goes to show what a strong union can negotiate – even during a difficult economic period,” said Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ deputy general secretary.

The bonus comes in addition to the pay deal. Barry Fitzpatrick, NUJ head of publishing, said members had made additional submissions to employers on workload and performance. “The payment of a bonus is some acknowledgement of the additional efforts and success achieved for the MPs’ expenses scandal,” he said. However, the NUJ still has issues with Telegraph employers related to workload and shift patterns.
