Diamond Jubilee holiday

Half a million construction workers covered by the Construction industry Joint Council (CIJC) Working Rule Agreement will be entitled to an additional day’s holiday for the Diamond Jubilee celebration on 5 June.

Steve Murphy, general secretary of UCATT, said his union fully expects all companies who follow the agreement to honour this decision.

However, he has warned that thousands of construction workers may be denied an extra holiday. Although the government has announced that there will be an additional bank holiday on 5th June, it has not increased the holiday entitlement under the working time directive. Therefore, only those whose contracts specify they receive all bank holidays as paid leave, automatically receive an extra day’s holiday.
