Unite calls for inquiry into Transline’s links to slavery

There should be an investigation into recruitment agency Transline, which employs agency workers at Sports Direct’s Shirebrook warehouse, says the Unite general union. It made the call after two brothers were convicted of an offence under the Modern Slavery Act.

The pair admitted conning and threatening workers they recruited for the agency. The union reported that Transline has already had its licence to operate in the food and agricultural sector revoked.

“The government must put its money where its mouth is too, by fully resourcing the Gangmasters Licensing Authority and enforcement action against modern day slavers,” said Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner.
