Health and safety guides

Scientific and professionals’ union Prospect has published five new health and safety guides and a safety rep charter template following its Taking time, saving lives 2017 health and safety conference in March.

More than 100 health and safety reps gathered at the event and heard from academic and industry speakers, including Professor Sir Cary Cooper, an expert in organisational psychology and health.

One of the guides deals with “Just culture”. This is defined as one in which front-line operators and others are not punished for actions, omissions or decisions taken by them which are commensurate with their experience and training], but where gross negligence, wilful violations and destructive acts are not tolerated. The other guides cover fatigue; gender in occupational safety and health, employee assistance programmes; and talking about a mental health condition at work.
