Transfer of BBC’s Songs of Praise on hold


BECTU, the media and entertainment sector of the Prospect specialist union has secured an agreement with the BBC to suspend plans for a 1 June transfer of staff to the new producers of the Songs of Praise religious programme, so that consultations can take place.


BECTU had expressed concerns about the BBC’s handling of the tendering process and its failure to consult the union. 


Avanti, a partner in the successful bid to secure the Songs of Praise contract, has indicated that it intends to end collective bargaining with and recognition of BECTU, along with the introduction of performance-related pay.
