Construction inspections
The number of unannounced inspections in the construction industry fell by 14% between 2015-16 and 2016-17, according to the results of a freedom of information request from the Unite general union.
HSE inspectors carried out just 7,912 unannounced inspections in the sector last year, compared to 9,219 the previous year, the union said. The figures are further evidence of a lack of inspections in what Unite describes as the most dangerous industry in the UK.
