Best practice on mental health first aid


The CWU communication workers’ union has welcomed new best practice guidance for employers on how to implement mental health first aid (MHFA) in the workplace. 


MHFA England published new guidance last month after the HSE amended its first aid guidance to include mental ill health. 


Online HSE guidance now advises employers that following their first aid needs assessment they “might decide that it will be beneficial to have personnel trained to identify and understand symptoms and able to support someone who might be experiencing a mental health issue”. It also signposts employers to further information on managing workplace stress and mental health issues.
