Pay on the rise in Spain

The average pay increase in Spain in the first half of this year was 2.2% compared with 1.6% in the same period in 2018, according to the latest figures published by the ministry of labour. These figures include staged agreements from earlier years but, if only agreements negotiated this year are included, the average increase is 3.6%.

The CCOO trade union confederation argues that a key reason for higher increases, which are well above the 0.4% inflation rate for June, is the national pay pact signed in July 2018, which proposed increases of between 2.0% and 3.0%.
