Flexible parental leave in Italian post office

Unions in the Italian post office, Poste Italiane, have reached an agreement which will allow parental leave to be used more flexibly.

Currently it must be used in blocks of single days or half days, but in future workers will be able to use it in blocks of just two and a half hours. As before, staff must give two days’ notice of their intention to take leave.

The new arrangements will be trialled for six months from 1 October, after which it will be assessed by both sides.

Nicole Di Ceglie, national secretary of SLC CGIL, one of the signatory unions, described the agreement as introducing “important advances”.
