New guide on the right to disconnect

Technology was already blurring the line between work and our personal lives, says specialists’ union Prospect, with the “always on” culture of checking emails and taking calls away from work widespread in many companies and industries for some time. Covid has accelerated the transition to new technologies and data-driven processes and these issues have intensified during lockdown.

The union says the “right to disconnect” is about defining how technology affects us and ensuring a fair work-life balance, so flexibility works for workers as well as employers.

Prospect’s new Right to disconnect guide examines different approaches and looks at how to ensure unions are involved in safeguarding workers’ wellbeing and rights as new technology changes how we work.
