Charity sets example on disabled workers
Disability charity Scope has set itself a target of a 20% disabled workforce by 2007 - and is to reserve posts for disabled applicants to help it achieve this.
The target means that, if the number of employees at Scope remains at the current figure of 4,000, the charity should be employing 800 disabled people by 2007.
Human resources director Jon Sparkes said Scope was going for a 20% target because, if all working-age disabled people were in employment, they would make up 20% of the UK workforce.
Over one million disabled people want work but do not have a job, according to the Office for National Statistics.
