Rethinking globalisation

Critical issues and policy choices

Martin Khor, Zed Books, 144 pages, hardback £32.95, paperback £9.99

This must be the best short analysis of globalisation that has been published. It examines the three key features of globalisation: trade; finance, including the indebtedness of third world countries; and investment. It is sharply critical of Western governments and the policies of the World Bank, IMF and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

On all the main issues it makes a series of very positive, concrete proposals, and urges that the authority and resources of the United Nations should be greatly increased, and that third world countries should collaborate much more effectively.

It suggests that the integration of environmental and economic and social justice concerns is the crucial task for developing countries.
