RPI inflation goes up
Inflation under the Retail Prices Index — which includes housing costs and is the measure favoured by union negotiators — was up to 1.4% in May from 1.3% the previous month.
Higher motoring costs were the main driver of the rise.
There was no movement in the government’s preferred measure, the Consumer Prices Index.
The annual percentage increase for this measure was steady at 0.3%.
