Trans healthcare benefit welcomed
The CWU communications union reports that telecoms company Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) has introduced a trans healthcare benefit.
The company has committed to fund gender affirming surgery and gender identity support for all trans and non-binary employees which will include early consultation, diagnosis and counselling, as well as medical support and intervention on fundamental elements of transitioning.
The benefit will be provided through existing healthcare insurers, but employees do not need to be part of VMO2’s healthcare insurance scheme to have access.
CWU national officer Tracey Fussey said that “very few employers are even looking at offering the level of support for Trans employees that VMO2 is introducing, and the company can justly be proud of the trail it is blazing”.
