Opposition to Tata merger
IG Metall, Germany’s largest union, is opposing a possible merger between the German steelmaker Thyssen-Krupp and Tata Steel, which owns the threatened Port Talbot steelworks in Wales
It fears that any restructuring will mean job losses and it is particularly concerned about a merger with Tata, which it says “is already beleaguered”.
