Cheaper energy bills cut inflation

Cheaper gas and electricity prices this year have helped cut inflation. In April, the Retail Prices Index rose by 4.5% - down from 4.8% the previous month.

Meanwhile, inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which excludes housing costs and is the government's preferred measure, fell to 2.8% in April - down from the record high of 3.1% in March. Again cheaper energy prices aided the fall.
