French minimum wage rises
The French national minimum wage went up by 2.4% last month to €6.83 an hour (around £4.35). However, the new centre-right government of Jean-Pierre Raffarin has not followed tradition by introducing a substantial rise after winning an election. The 2.4% increase is the lowest possible under French law.
