Tackling racism course gets underway

The TUC's new Tackling racism online course for union reps and learning reps is now underway with what the TUC describes as "a brilliant response" to the course from reps.

Launched at the end of last year by the TUC education service, the free course is being run over 10 weeks. The course continues throughout the year so that reps can register at any time.

It aims to assist reps:

* learn about key issues such as institutional racism, discrimination and harassment, asylum seekers and migrant workers;

* build confidence and sharpen skills to tackle racism at work effectively; and

* meet new people online and share best practice on representing members, bargaining strategies and workplace campaigns.

The TUC says that reps can "network with other union reps facing the same problems, learning practical skills and share best

practice from workplaces, schools and colleges nationwide."

And, it says, the course will be run flexibly so students can learn at their own pace and at times that suit them.
