Postal union's pay campaign
The CWU communication workers' union has begun the first stage of a pay campaign among its postal membership in the lead up to annual pay negotiations with Royal Mail.
A key target for the union is an increase in basic pay. Postal workers rely heavily on overtime and a range of allowances to boost their earnings. The CWU points out that basic pay for a postal worker is on average £311.50 a week compared to the UK average of £377.60 a week.
