Unions plan London weighting action

On 16 October some 30,000 postal workers and 60,000 local government workers took a day's strike action in pursuit of their claim for increases in London allowances. This was the second day of action by members of the CWU communication workers union while members of public services union UNISON have been pursuing their £4,000-a-year claim for over two years.

Several unions have come together in the London Public Sector Alliance to try to co-ordinate action on London weighting. The CWU and UNISON are joined by the RMT transport union, the Fire Brigades Union, the NUT teachers' union and college lecturers' union NATFHE.
