Aviva job cuts are "brutal"
Finance union Amicus has denounced plans by Aviva, the UK's biggest insurer, to cut 4,000 jobs at its Norwich Union business by 2008 in an attempt to cut costs. Half of the job losses will be through compulsory redundancies, while up to 1,000 jobs will go to India, and another 500 IT posts will be outsourced.
"This is a betrayal of Norwich Union's long-serving workforce," said Amicus national officer David Fleming. "This is absolutely brutal, and compulsory job cuts and offshoring will not be accepted by us or our members."
