Long-term pay deals in construction industry
The first stage of a four-stage, 36- month agreement in the Heating and Ventilating industry increased basic pay, overtime and allowances by 3.5% from 3 November for 30,000 workers.
Elsewhere in the construction sector, the final stage of a three-stage, 36-month agreement for 20,000 electrical contracting workers covered by the Joint Industry Board agreement will increase pay rates by an average of 7.16% from January.
The Heating and Ventilating craft rate is now £17,997.20 and there is a 38-hour basic working week.
A second stage rise will increase pay rates by 4.5% in October 2004. In April 2005 a London Rate Allowance of £6.00 per day (paid to all grades) will be introduced for workers who live within the M25 area. The final stage in October 2005 will be a 5.1% increase on salaries, allowances and overtime. The lodging allowance increased to £26.50 per night.
The basic rate for a JIB electrician is now £18,720.00 (the national rate for 'transport provided'). There is a basic 37.5 hour week. Travelling allowances range from £2.65 per day for over 15 and up to 20 miles to £9.02 per day for 55-75 miles.
