Non-manual pay awards remain steady at 3%
The Office of Manpower Economics (OME), which provides information for the government and public sector pay review bodies, has published the results of its latest survey of awards for non-manual employees outside the public sector.
Covering the year from 8 June 2003 to 7 June 2004, the survey results are based on 390 settlements from 355 companies (representing approximately 800,000 employees), which show a median increase of 3%. The median has remained at this level since 2002; in 2001 it was 3.5%.
Most (238) of the settlements were in companies with fewer than 1,000 employees. The only companies showing a variation from the 3% median were those employing between 5,000 and 19,999 full-time staff; among these firms, the median pay award was 3.4%.
