BECTU finds recognition in Manchester

Broadcast union BECTU is on the way to recognition deals for caterers at ITV's Manchester base and for staff at Manchester United's TV channel, MUTV.

ITV Manchester's 20 catering staff, employed by contractor Baxter Storey, voted unanimously in favour of recognition. The result obviated the need for a formal legal claim by BECTU, and the company has agreed to accept it.

Of the 16 staff participating in a vote at MUTV, 13 supported recognition - again giving BECTU automatic recognition. Union officials now hope to co-operate with management in drafting a formal recognition agreement.
