Few employers fulfilling DDA
Only two in five employers (42%) have carried out a comprehensive audit
of their employment practices and premises as a direct result of the
Disability Discrimination Act, according to a survey of 160 employers
with around 880,000 employees carried out by IRS Employment Trends.
However, a much higher proportion (79%) said they had reviewed job
advertisements for disability discrimination, 78% had reviewed selection
procedures and 73% had reviewed access to buildings. Those reviewing job
descriptions totalled 58% and promotion and transfer arrangements, 48%.
The majority of employers (86%) now have a formal policy on the
employment of disabled people. This is an 11% rise since 1996.
