Bank managers regain partial union role

Finance union UNIFI and the HSBC (formerly Midland) bank have come to a compromise over representation of the bank's 12,500 junior and middle managers. The deal comes five years after the union was derecognised for Midland managers.

The agreement falls short of full union recognition but constitutes a "framework within which the views of the . managers will be represented," according to the union.

A national council will comprise 14 elected members, five of whom will be elected by managers who are UNIFI members. The other nine will be elected by the bank's managers as a whole.

The council will be able to submit proposals, views and comments to the bank for consideration on issues including pay and benefits, working arrangements, hours of work and health and safety.
