Can we call a meeting of union members to discuss industrial relations problems and potential industrial action in works time and in the workplace?
If a union is recognised by the employer there is a right to a reasonable amount of paid time off for its officials carrying out their union duties. As far as union members are concerned, in recognised workplaces they have the right to time off for trade union activities, which could include union meetings. However, there is no right for this time off to be paid and the amount of time off must be "reasonable".
