Survey finds haulage firms complacent over truck driver safety
Haulage companies are complacent about truck driver safety, according to the T&G general union. The union's Hull branch surveyed over 100 road haulage companies, but over 90% failed to respond.
Of those who did respond, only one company carried out a workplace inspection to identify hazards and problems on an annual basis, and four out of 10 provided no health and safety training of any kind.
T&G organiser George Douse said the poor participation was "an indictment against the UK road transport industry". The T&G is now considering a national survey of the industry.
