European campaign targets young workers

Young people's occupational safety is the focus of "Safe Start", this year's European Week for Safety and Health at Work.

According to European figures, the work injury rate is 50% higher among 18- to 24-year-olds than for any other age group.

To mark the campaign, which will run from 23 to 27 October, the Health and Safety Executive has produced an action pack on young workers. Materials can be downloaded from www.hse.gov.uk/campaigns/euroweek/downloads.htm, and unions can get bulk copies by e-mailing [email protected]

The TUC will also be producing a leaflet aimed at safety reps, to be available in September.
