HIV and social exclusion

A new report revealing the links between HIV and social exclusion, including exclusion from employment, has been published by the HIV and Aids charity the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Social exclusion and HIV says that the action of some employers can lead to workers with HIV resorting to constructive dismissal. These include "drastically altered and unacceptable shift patterns," and "requests to wear inappropriate clothing such as gloves or masks which would mark the person out." In addition: "Some employers have simply failed to stop victimisation by other staff, making continued working impossible."

The report recommends a range of legislative and other changes needed to combat social exclusion through HIV.
