Labour law review 2004
Jennifer Eady and Rebecca Tuck, Institute of Employment Rights, 44 pages, paperback, £5.00
This short guide gives a useful summary of some of the key developments in employment law over the past year. It is easy to follow and gives clear explanations of the cases as well as notes on new legislation.
Many of the cases featured will be familiar to readers of Workplace Report and Labour Research, including Susie Radin Ltd v GMB and others, where workers achieved the maximum protective award when their employer failed to consult over redundancies, and Barber v Somerset County Council, a successful claim brought by an overworked schoolteacher which sets out guidance on claims for stress at work.
This is not a guide for those with no previous knowledge of employment law, but it is a handy review for trade union reps and anyone else with an interest in employment law who want to keep their knowledge up to date.
