Hit-and-run attack

Anti-blacklisting campaigners have been the target of a hit-and-run attack.

During a protest last month in Manchester against the BAM construction firm, two campaigners were deliberately run down by a car and carried on the car’s bonnet for around 100 metres.

One of them, George Tapp, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary suffering from two broken legs and a fractured kneecap as well as a head injury. The other received minor injuries.

Tapp, an electrician and member of the Unite union, is a longstanding campaigner against blacklisting.

BAM has a £100 million contract to redevelop Manchester City FC’s training ground, and has been revealed as one of the construction firms involved in blacklisting workers for their union activism.

Unite is arranging legal and other support for Tapp and Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident.
